Symbols or no Symbols
 Some People chose to always draw the Reiki symbols each time they do Reiki.  Others
find themselves  just mentally intending to use symbols.  Others have Reiki activate without consciously using symbols at all.

It is not a choice   between striving to abandon at the first possible moment a tradition / tool such as drawing the symbols   and / or becoming mired in a tradition  beyond its  time of use. The point is to  practice Reiki and work on personal development  consistently and sincerely. 

I was one who spoke and wrote about not using the symbols consciously, long before  we knew that this was ever done in Japan.   Reiki  outran the symbols for me, it would be on and active and all functions going full out   while I was just beginning to think about drawing them stroke by careful stroke.

My  drawing the symbols  anyway would  actually interfere with the Reiki sometimes.  I was diverting my focus from the Reiki to the Symbol.  It was not that I was not using them but that they had integrated to the point that they were either automated  or always on.

  I had been familiar with some Buddhist  concepts /terms  designated by the symbols for over twenty years before encountering them as Reiki symbols.  Those terms seem far more deep and  meaningful than is usually taught in Reiki classes, so this integration was probably not nearly as instant as it appeared to be.  I still study and seek to integrate those meanings.

 I may or may not draw use or visualize the symbols while treating with Reiki. They  often appear in my mind fully formed when I think of Reiki.  I did not set out to do "automated" Reiki. This occurred on it's own and it  is just as effective and natural for me to work this way as it is for those who draw the symbols every time.

 I can transmit this ability  to others. This allows   people who are blind or otherwise unable to work with symbols to have and use Reiki  and work with other systems that use symbols.

Reiki is not a contest we are not trying to score points or get ribbons by demonstrating " powers ".  Our goals may include self help,  healing for ourselves  and for others, spiritual and personal growth,  personal evolution, enlightenment and contributing to Peace and human harmony.

 That is what we can work on.  Whether or not we do, or do not, draw the symbols each time the consistent practice will let your life and gifts evolve into what is in the highest good and most effective for you.
